Stop reading the Bible

What heinous heresy is afoot?
Don’t read the Bible?
Grab the torches and pitchforks!

A number of years ago I discovered a new way to “read” that revolutionized my time in God’s Word. I recently shared this with a few friends who said it is making a huge difference in their lives.

Instead of reading the Bible this year …

Oh wait, before I give it away, this little trick is one I shared in a message that is still available on YouTube. So, let me include a link so, you can get the whole salami (whatever that means).

So, here is the trick: Instead of just reading the Bible, I started copying it to a notebook. Wow! What a difference. Writing it slowed me down, enabled me to process what I was reading and just took my comprehension and understanding to a whole new level. It was amazing that such a small change made such a big difference.

TIPS

  • I found a cheap spiral notebook works great.
  • I suggest starting with the book of John – it’s short and powerful.
  • Pick a version you like. You are going to spend a LOT of time in it. (I used the New International Version.)
  • Quality not quantity – some days I only get a few paragraphs copied. Sometimes more. Some times I don’t write at all. The goal is not to accomplish a task but to foster relationship – ask the Author to speak to you as you copy HIS Words.
  • Keep it all in one place. Bible, notebook, good pen all together near a “prayer chair.”
  • Take your time. I’ve been working on the project off-and-on for around 10 or more years and am just now about to complete the New Testament. Finishing the book of Acts. Then I will start over in a different version.

So, there you have it.

Don’t just read the Bible in 2023.
Write it!
and may this be the most joy-full and fruit-full year of your life.
