What fool wouldn’t want this job?

Colossians 3:23, 24
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

If you work in a grocery store, you don’t get paid by the hospital down the street. It is the guy you work for who pays you. Most of us see ourselves working for an individual, maybe even ourselves, or for a company. That individual pays us.

But this passage says that as a believer whatever I do I should do it as though the Lord is my employer. It also promises that if I do that I can be assured He will “reward” me. My paycheck will not just come from the earthly boss but I will also be compensated by the Heavenly boss whom, in my heart, I am truly serving.

A good boss cares for his employees. But, no matter how well my earthly boss might pay me it can’t begin to compare with the compensation I can expect from my Heavenly boss.

I am going to do the work anyway. I can do it “good enough for government” and merely get paid with the fleeting currency of this world or I can do “heartily” – with a joyful heart. I can shift my attitude and go to work for my Lord, doing my job for his inspection and approval, not for men, and get rewarded with eternal treasure.

One rises and falls on the economy of this world. One is locked away securely for eternity. What kind of fool would not choose to go to work for “the Lord Christ”?

Matthew 6:19-21
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your
treasure is, there your heart will be also.
